BCCI Condemns Harassment of Australian Women Cricketers in Indore, Vows Stricter Security
Two Australian women cricketers were walking from their hotel to a cafe when they were harassed by a young man on a bike. The women players immediately sent an SOS call, and police arrived at the scene. The accused has now been arrested.
Board of Control for Cricket in India Secretary Devjit Saikia has termed the harassment of Australian women players at Indore as unfortunate. He has also vowed to enhance and enhance security for guest teams. Two Australian women cricketers were out for a walk from their hotel to a cafe when they were harassed by a youth riding a bike. The women players sent an SOS immediately, and the police reached the spot. The accused have now been arrested.
Regarding the incident, BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia said, "This is a very unfortunate incident. No one expected such an incident, as India is a hospitable country. This should not have happened to any guest of our country. Therefore, we deeply regret this unfortunate incident."
He said, "We are also pleased that the police took swift action to apprehend the culprit as soon as possible. I hope the law will take its course to punish the apprehended culprit. We will also ensure that a security cordon is already in place for all visiting teams during the ICC Women's ODI World Cup, but we will further enhance it and ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future. We hope that the remaining World Cup matches will also run smoothly."
Upon receiving information about the incident, police officials recorded the statements of the players and registered an FIR against the accused at the MIG police station under sections 74 and 78 of the Indian Penal Code. The accused is employed in the local area and has previous criminal cases registered against him. The police have also seized the accused's bike.
