'Only one and a half year imprisonment to terrorism accused', SC overturns Madras High Court's decision; Bail of 8 PFI members canceled

The Supreme Court on Wednesday gave a big blow to the members of the banned organization Popular Front of India (PFI). Overturning the decision of the Madras High Court, the court has canceled the bail of all 8 accused members. These eight are accused of conspiring to carry out terrorist incidents across the country. The Modi government has banned this organization.

A division bench of Justice Bela Madhurya Trivedi and Justice Pankaj Mithal in the Supreme Court said that considering the seriousness of the crime and the fact that the maximum sentence, these criminals spent only 1.5 years in jail. In this case, the Supreme Court is willing to interfere in the decision of the High Court. The court ordered to cancel the bail of these eight criminals.

The Madras High Court, which is composed of Justices SS Sunder and SS Sundar, announced in October of last year that bail would be granted for the eight accused because there was no proof that they were associated with any terrorist organization or that terrorist materials were present.
