Nitish Rana Named Delhi Captain for 2025-26 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy
Nitish Rana has been appointed Delhi's captain for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which begins on November 26th.
Nitish Rana will lead Delhi in the 2025-26 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy while wrist spinner Digvesh Rathi has been excluded from the squad. Delhi has been grouped alongside Jharkhand, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Saurashtra and Tripura in Elite Group D for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy that gets underway on November 26. The matches are slated to be played in Ahmedabad.
Another important point to be noted is that Nitish Rana came into the Delhi camp from Uttar Pradesh, but was not selected for the team in this season's Ranji Trophy. Ayush Badoni is also included in the Delhi team selected for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The Delhi & District Cricket Association stated that Ishant Sharma, Harshit Rana, and Navdeep Saini will also join the team subject to their availability.
According to sources, veteran fast bowler Ishant Sharma is recovering from injury and is at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. The same is true for senior fast bowler Navdeep Saini. Saini is also battling an injury, which has limited his participation in the Ranji Trophy.
All-rounder Harshit Rana will also join the team subject to availability, as he is in contention for selection in the Indian team for the ODI and T20 series against South Africa. Meanwhile, opener Priyansh Arya and leg-spinner Suyash Sharma will join the Delhi team following India A's defeat to Bangladesh A in the semi-final of the Rising Asia Cup 2025 in Doha.
