Rajat Patidar has been named captain of the Madhya Pradesh side in all formats prior to the 2025-26 domestic season, which starts with the Ranji Trophy, which starts on October 15. Rajat Patidar, 32, takes over as captain from Shubham Sharma. Patidar was named captain by Madhya Pradesh Director of Cricket Chandrakant Pandit.

Rajat Patidar was initially experimented as a captain in the previous season's Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. As captain, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) became IPL champions for the first time. Madhya Pradesh made it to the final under his captaincy, where they were defeated by Mumbai.

Rajat Patidar has been a stellar captain since winning the IPL title. He recently led Central Zone to the Duleep Trophy title for the first time since 2014-15. Recently, Patidar led the Rest of India team in the Irani Cup, which included notable names like Ishan Kishan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Abhimanyu Easwaran. However, his team lost to Vidarbha by 93 runs in that match.

Rajat Patidar has scored 529 runs in 11 innings at an average of 48.09, including one century and two half-centuries. Patidar scored a century in the Duleep Trophy final. Madhya Pradesh will begin its Ranji Trophy campaign on October 15 with a match against Punjab. The team will then take on Saurashtra from October 25th.

The Ranji Trophy season is scheduled to be played in two phases. The first phase will be played from October 15th to November 19th, followed by a break for the white-ball tournament. The second phase will then be played from January 22nd to February 1st next year, while the knockout stages will be held from February 6th to 28th.
