Indian Naval Ship 'Khanjar' rescued 36 fishermen from the Bay of Bengal. All these fishermen were stranded at sea 130 miles away from the Tamil Nadu coast. The fishermen were on board three fishing boats. INS Khanjar rescued these fishermen safely in 30 hours of challenging sea conditions.
INS Khanjar, which is on operational deployment in the Bay of Bengal, detected three fishing vessels Sabarainathan, Kalaivani, and V Sami about 130 mm off the Tamil Nadu coast. There were 36 fishermen on board and all are from Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu.
They were stranded at sea for more than two days due to bad weather, without fuel, luggage, and engine failure. The ship supplied essential provisions to the fishing vessels. All three ships made their safe return to Chennai Port on 28 Jul 2023. INS Khanjar is an indigenous Khukri class missile corvette, currently in service with the Indian Navy.
