India Aims for 119 Million Tons Wheat Output; Pulses and Oilseeds Also in Focus
Wheat: According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the wheat production target for Uttar Pradesh for the upcoming 2025-26 Rabi season has been set at 36.4 million tons. Madhya Pradesh has been targeted at 24 million tons, Punjab at 18 million tons, Rajasthan at 11.5 million tons, Haryana at 11.5 million tons, and Bihar at 7.25 million tons.

The government has set a record wheat production target of 119 million tons for the 2025-26 crop year, representing a 3.47% increase from last year. The target for the 2024-25 crop year (July-June) was 115 million tons, with actual production estimated at a record 117.5 million tons.
According to the Agriculture Ministry, the wheat production target for Uttar Pradesh for the upcoming 2025-26 Rabi season has been set at 36.4 million tonnes. Madhya Pradesh has been assigned a target of 24 million tonnes, Punjab 18 million tonnes, Rajasthan 11.5 million tonnes, Haryana 11.5 million tonnes, and Bihar 7.25 million tonnes. The target for pulses and oilseeds production for the 2025-26 Rabi season is 16.5 million tonnes.
Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, speaking about wheat and rice during the two-day National Rabi Conference on Tuesday, said the country has reached global production levels, but pulses and oilseeds require more focus. The government is reviewing crops individually and will take specific actions to boost Rabi crop outputs. The minister mentioned that there is sufficient supply of seeds and fertilizers for the Rabi season. During the upcoming Rabi season, over 2,000 teams of agricultural scientists will visit farmers to offer timely information and guidance through the Rabi campaign called Vikasit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, starting October 3.
