Marufa Akhtar, a 19-year-old medium-pacer of Bangladesh, who even made her international debut in 2022. She has successfully made her mark in world cricket in a very short time. However, her mother is not happy with this. In an interview, Marufa herself revealed that her mother still wants her to quit playing cricket. Marufa is included in the Bangladesh team that went to participate in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup.

Marufa comes from a regular family. Her father is a farmer, and her mother looks after the children at home. Marufa is the youngest out of four siblings. Marufa's parents did not support her desire to be a cricketer. She is now a well-known member of the Bangladesh cricket team, but her mother still does not want her to play. Last year, during the T20 World Cup, a video of Marufa ploughing her farm with her father went viral on social media.

She also told that her mother wants her to sit at home like other girls. Further, she told that she got full support from her elder brothers. She started playing cricket and football with boys in childhood. Many times the boys refused to let her play football with them, then she used to cry a lot. Her Elder brother Al Amin Islam saw her passion for sports, which is why he explained to her that she should play cricket as there is a risk of leg injury in football. Marufa accepted her elder brother's advice. Her brother enrolled her in a local academy, where Marufa learned the tricks of cricket.

Marufa was able to fulfil her dream despite having to rebel against her mother at times, thanks to the support of her brother. Marufa has played 26 international T20 matches for Bangladesh, taking 18 wickets. Bangladesh will also expect Marufa to perform better in the Women's T20 World Cup 2024.
