30 thousand refugees from Myanmar in Mizoram

The flow of refugees suffering from the atrocities of the military dictator government in Myanmar continues to come to India. About 30,000 refugees are sheltered in the northeastern state of Mizoram. The Mizoram government has also prepared data by profiling these refugees who arrived in the state. The Mizoram government has issued special identity cards to all Myanmar refugees.
State government officials say that these identity cards cannot be used to take advantage of government schemes. The population of Mizoram is about 1.2 million. Among them, there is a possibility of deteriorating population balance due to the arrival of 30,000 Myanmar refugees. Vigil has been intensified in about 160 refugee camps in Mizoram. So that these refugees do not settle in the local areas.
Terrorists have been crossing the Tiau river to Mizoram in groups ever since the army took power in Myanmar in February last year. These refugees are originally from the Chin province of Myanmar. These camps also include 14 people's representatives from the previous democratic government led by Aung Sang Suu Kyi of Myanmar.
Myanmar refugees who arrived in Mizoram are staying in 160 relief camps in Champhai, Siaha, Langtlai, Serchhip, Hnahthiyal and Setual districts. Of the 30,000 refugees from Myanmar living in Mizoram, 11,800 are children and 10,200 are women. The state government has so far sanctioned around Rs 80 lakh for the refugees.
Recently 80 Myanmar nationals including 20 children were arrested in the Churachandpur district of Manipur bordering Myanmar. They were later sent to judicial custody in Imphal. The state unit of the BJP has demanded a rake on the people coming from Myanmar.
There are 5000 to 10000 citizens of Myanmar living in Manipur. Due to this, the people of the Meite and Naga tribes fear that their influx may disturb the ethnic balance. The population of Meite, a majority Hindu community, is also declining continuously. As of the 2011 Indian census, Meites constituted 51% of the total population of the state. Whereas in 1971 it was close to 66%.
