Maruti Suzuki will likely introduce the new generation Swift hatchback in the Indian market in early 2024. The new Maruti Swift was recently introduced at the Japan Auto Show with several changes.

While most of the details have already been revealed, Suzuki has now also shared the engine details of its hatchback. Swift will be given a hybrid engine. When launched in India, it will become the first car in its segment to be offered with a hybrid powertrain.

The 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift will come with a new 1.2-litre petrol engine, replacing the existing 1.2-litre unit. The new Swift will be offered in 2 new broad trims. One will come with a naturally aspirated three-cylinder engine and the other will be offered with a 12V mild hybrid powertrain. In its current generation, the Swift is offered in India with a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated unit.

The new 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine in the 2024 Swift will come with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed CVT transmission unit. Maruti is expected to discontinue the AMT gearbox available in the current generation model in its new avatar. The CVT unit will be paired with a mild-hybrid version of the hatchback.

In terms of performance, the new Swift will offer around 80 bhp of power and 108 Nm of peak torque. It is slightly less powerful than the current generation Swift, producing around 88 bhp of power and 113 Nm of torque.

However, the new Swift will be a more affordable option in the long run with better fuel efficiency. The naturally aspirated unit will return a mileage of 23.4 kilometres per litre, while the hybrid version will be able to run up to 24.5 kilometres without fuel.

The new Swift will come with many updates in its exterior as well as interior. The exterior will now feature a new set of LED tail lamps and headlamps. The interior is now inspired by the Baleno and features a new infotainment system and a new instrument cluster. Current prices of Swift start at Rs 5.99 lakh and go up to Rs 9.03 lakh (ex-showroom). The price of the new generation Swift is expected to be slightly higher than this.
