Supreme Court is hearing a case today about the increase of the polling station's voter base against to the EC's decision

On Monday, the Supreme Court will hear the PIL challenging the Election Commission's decision to enhance the maximum number of voters at each polling station from 1,200 to 1,500.

The bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar will hear the PIL filed by Indu Prakash Singh. The petition has challenged the directive issued by the Election Commission in August 2024. In the said directive, the Election Commission said to increase the number of voters per polling station in each constituency of the country.

The petition said that the decision to increase the number of voters per polling station is arbitrary. Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, appearing for the petitioner, argued that increasing the number of voters from 1,200 to 1,500 will lead to long queues at polling stations and long waits and voters will refrain from voting.
