Pace of industrial production slowed down, production came to the lowest level in three months
According to the official data released on Friday, the growth of industrial production in India slowed down in June. The deceleration was mainly due to the poor performance of the manufacturing industry, which pushed industrial production growth to a three-month low of 3.7 percent. Factory output growth as measured by the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) reached 12.6 percent by June 2022.
India's industrial production growth declined in June, according to official data released on Friday. The decline was mainly on account of poor performance by the manufacturing sector due to which industrial production growth slowed to a three-month low of 3.7 per cent.
Factory output growth as measured in terms of the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) stood at 12.6 percent in June 2022. The previous low of IIP was 1.9 percent in March 2023. After this, it increased to 4.5 percent in April and 5.3 percent in May.
During the first quarter (April-June) of 2023-24, IIP growth stood at 4.5 percent, as against 12.9 percent in the same period a year ago.
According to IIP data released by the National Statistical Office (NSO), manufacturing sector output grew by 3.1 percent in June 2023, up from 12.9 percent a year ago.
Electricity generation to grow by 4.2 percent in June 2023 compared to 16.4 percent a year ago. Mining output grew by 7.6 percent during the month under review, as against 7.8 percent in the year-ago period.
As per use-based classification, the capital goods segment grew by 2.2 percent in June this year, as against 28.6 percent a year ago. The production of consumer durables contracted by 6.9 percent during the month, as against a growth of 25.2 percent in the year-ago period.
The production of consumer non-durables increased by 1.2 percent compared to a 2.9 percent increase from a year earlier. Infrastructure/construction goods registered a growth of 11.3 percent as compared to 9.4 percent in the same period a year ago.
According to the data, the production of primary articles registered a growth of 5.2 percent in the month, as against 13.8 percent in the year-ago period. On the other hand, the production of intermediate goods increased by 4.5 percent in June, compared to an increase of 10.5 percent in the same month last year.
