The first match of the five-match Test series between India and England is taking place at Headingley in Leeds. On the first day of this Test match, Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant played brilliantly, scoring a half-century, marking a significant milestone in his career. Pant has become the second-fastest wicketkeeper-batsman to reach 3,000 runs in Test cricket, achieving this in the 76th innings. Australia's legendary wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist holds the record for the fastest, accomplishing this in just 63 innings. Pant finished the first day with an unbeaten 65 off 102 balls, and he also shared a strong fourth-wicket partnership of 138 runs with captain Shubman Gill.

It is worth noting that Rishabh Pant made his Test debut against England in 2018. He has played 44 Test matches so far, amassing over 3,000 runs in 76 innings at an average of over 42 and a strike rate exceeding 73. During this time, he has scored 6 centuries and 15 half-centuries, with his highest score being 159 runs. He has also excelled behind the wicket, taking 164 catches.

By the end of the first day's play, India had scored 359 runs for the loss of three wickets. Rishabh Pant remained unbeaten on 65, while Shubman Gill also batted unbeaten, with a score of 127 runs after scoring a century. Earlier, young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal had scored a century for India, exiting the match after making 101 runs off 159 balls, including 16 fours and 1 six.
