Sai Sudarshan Breaks Chris Gayle Record as Gujarat Titans Win Thriller vs Punjab Kings
Sai Sudarshan breaks Chris Gayle's 13-year-old record: In a match played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday night, Gujarat Titans' Sai Sudarshan broke Chris Gayle's 13-year-old record. When Gayle set this record, Sai was only 11 years old.
The 46th IPL 2026 game was played between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Punjab Kings at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad. Gujarat won by a narrow margin in the last over. GT’s openers made a significant contribution to the victory, as Sai Sudarshan made another historic performance. He surpassed Chris Gayle's record and became the leading player with the highest number of runs after playing 50 IPL games.
Sudarshan, 24, scored 57 runs in 41 balls, including five fours and one six. As a result, Sudarshan scored 2178 runs in 50 IPL games, which is more than Gayle's total of 2061 runs. Gayle had been holding onto the record for the past 13 years, during which period Sudarshan was just 11 years old. Mitchell Marsh is in third place with 1933 runs in 50 innings.
This isn't the first time Sudharshan has broken Gayle's record this season. Recently, the opening batsman set the record for the fastest 2000 runs in IPL history. He achieved this milestone in just 47 innings, one less than Gayle's 48. Mitchell Marsh is right behind him with 52 innings.
