The intense heat and the blazing sun can damage not only us but also the healthy green plants on our balconies. To shield our plants from overheating, we often panic and overwater them. However, this excess care can actually harm the plants more than help. Watering at the wrong time and inappropriately during summer may cause plant roots to rot. Let's understand the correct timing and method for watering plants during these hot days to keep your garden vibrant and healthy.
The ideal watering time in summer is between 5:00 and 9:00 am. because the temperature is cooler and the air is calmer. This allows water to directly reach the roots without immediate evaporation caused by the sun's heat. Additionally, morning watering provides moisture needed to endure the scorching heat and sunlight. An added benefit is that sunlight helps dry any water droplets on the leaves, reducing fungal risks.
If morning watering isn’t possible, the next best time is in the evening after sunset. Evening watering allows soil to absorb moisture overnight. However, be cautious to water only the roots and avoid wetting the leaves, as overnight dampness can promote fungal growth.
