Opposition parties are forming a third front to oust the BJP from power in the 2024 general elections. Meanwhile, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday refused to be part of the Third Front. He said that the Biju Janata Party (BJD) party would contest the elections alone. In fact, Nitish had met Naveen on Tuesday, after which the speculation about the Odisha Chief Minister joining the Third Front had intensified.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik reached Delhi on May 10 on a four-day visit. Here on Thursday, he met PM Modi. He said that I met the Prime Minister and many issues related to the development of Odisha were discussed. I also talked about shifting the international airport from Bhubaneswar to Puri. The PM assured that he would do all possible help.
When Naveen Patnaik was asked about his meeting with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday, he said it was just a courtesy call. Our friendship is well known and we were colleagues many years ago. There was no discussion on any alliance today. In Puri, the Bihar government is being given land free of cost to build Bihar Bhawan.
Earlier on Tuesday, after the meeting, Nitish Kumar denied any discussion on the alliance. He said that we have old relations. I also had a good relationship with his father. We have so much mutual respect that we don't need political issues to meet. Although I could not meet him here after having the coronavirus.
Naveen Patnaik recently met West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Since then speculation was rife that he was trying to send a message to the BJP. In such a situation, after his meeting with Nitish, it was being speculated that he too could join the third front formed to defeat the BJP in the 2024 elections.
