Difficulties for Chinese apps will increase in America, bill to ban TikTok passed by Senate

The US Senate has passed a bill banning TikTok. This bill was approved by 79-18 votes. Now all that remains is to wait for President Joe Biden's signature to ban Chinese apps in America.

The Chinese parent company would have to give up ownership of the app if President Joe Biden signs the bill. The US government will outlaw TikTok if the company doesn't take these steps.

Thus, Joe Biden has not yet approved the bill that would outlaw TikTok. Let us inform you that ByteDance will only have a year to sell to an American buyer or risk sanctions from the United States.

ByteDance, located in Beijing, has one year to sell TikTok to a US buyer under the terms of the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act bill.

A timeline of 9 months will be given for the deal. If the deal goes ahead, 90 days of extra time will be given. At the same time, if ByteDance is not able to sell TikTok to a US buyer in this timeframe, then the use of TikTok will be completely stopped in America.

The reason behind this legislative action is the Chinese ownership of TikTok and the access of the authoritarian government in Beijing to American user data.

Given national security concerns in America, the government is taking this step to prevent China's access to user data. On the other hand, TikTok says that the company has never shared the data of US users with Chinese authorities.
