Spain Prepares Emergency Response as Hantavirus Cruise Ship Nears Tenerife

There is great anxiety about the Hantavirus outbreak around the world. There is a cruise ship that contains Hantavirus, heading towards Spain’s Canary Islands, with two Indian passengers on board. At least it is good news that the two Indian passengers haven’t shown any signs or symptoms of Hantavirus.

According to Jagran sources in the Union Health Ministry, both Indian passengers on board the ship to Spain are under observation and are asymptomatic.

On the other hand, the Indian government claims that there is no danger from Hantavirus in India. Dr. Naveen Kumar, the Director of ICMR National Institute of Virology, confirms that there is no possibility of the community getting infected because there is no proof of that happening.

Meanwhile, after the US (CDC) declared it a 'Level-3' emergency, Spanish agencies have been preparing to evacuate and isolate passengers on a war footing. The ship is carrying over 140 passengers and crew members.
