Around 6,800 corruption cases probed by CBI are pending in courts, 313 cases are more than 20 years old: CVC
The Central Vigilance Commission took note of the huge pendency of cases in various courts. The report states that 692 cases were pending investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as on 31 December 2022, of which 42 were pending for more than five years. At the same time, a total of 6841 cases are pending.
According to the latest annual report of the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), at least 6,841 cases of corruption probed by the CBI were pending in various courts, of which 313 cases were pending for more than 20 years. Out of the total cases, 2039 cases were pending for more than 10 years, 2324 for more than five years, 842 for more than three years, and 1323 for less than three years.
The Central Vigilance Commission took note of the huge pendency of cases in various courts. It was observed that as on December 31, 2022, 6,841 cases were pending hearings, of which 313 cases were overdue. Apart from these, a total of 12,408 appeals and revisions in corruption cases were pending in the High Courts and the Supreme Court.
The report said that 692 cases were pending investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as on December 31, 2022, of which 42 were under investigation for more than five years. Usually, the CBI has to complete the investigation within one year from the date of registration of the case. A total of 60 cases were pending investigation for more than three years but less than five years, 79 cases for more than two years but less than three years, 138 cases for more than one year but less than two years, and 373 cases for investigation.
