Anti-dumping duty may be imposed on import of Chinese glass, Commerce Ministry recommends
Anti-Dumping Duty on Import of Chinese Glass: The commerce ministry has recommended for imposition of anti-dumping duty on import of Chinese glass. The final decision on this recommendation will be taken by the Finance Ministry. The Commerce Ministry has made the recommendation regarding anti-dumping duty because a complaint was filed a few days ago regarding the import of Chinese glass.
A large quantity of Chinese glass is imported into the country. The Commerce Ministry has recommended the import of Chinese glass. He said Chinese glass should face anti-dumping duty of up to US$243 per tonne on imports to avoid cheap shipments.
The final decision regarding anti-dumping duty will be taken by the Finance Ministry.
A few days ago a complaint was registered regarding Chinese glass. After this, the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), the investigation wing of the Commerce Ministry, investigated it. The DGTR checked the thickness and class of these glasses. Apart from this they also investigated the dumping of toughened glass. This glass is exported from China.
The Federation of Safety Glass, an association of safety/specialty glass processors, applied to initiate this investigation. At the same time, the applicant had alleged that this product would affect the domestic industries.
After the conclusion of the investigation, DGTR said that the product was exported at a price which is below the normal level. This means that dumping has occurred which has affected domestic manufacturers.
"Accordingly, the Authority recommends imposition of definitive anti-dumping duty on imports for a period of five years," the DGTR notification said.
At the same time, the recommended tariff is between USD 41.8 per tonne and USD 243 per tonne. Anti-dumping investigations are conducted to determine whether an increase in cheap imports has caused injury to domestic industries. The purpose of this duty is to ensure fair trade practices and create a level playing field for domestic producers compared to foreign producers and exporters.
India has already imposed anti-dumping duties on many products to deal with cheap imports from various countries including China.
