WhatsApp launched AI chat wallpaper feature, work is also being done on threaded message replies

WhatsApp has introduced a new feature that allows users to create their own chat wallpapers using Artificial Intelligence (AI). After updating to the latest version of WhatsApp for iOS, users can generate a custom chat background by providing a prompt and then make adjustments to it before setting it as their wallpaper. This feature is powered by Meta AI and is also available to testers on the beta version of Android.

This WhatsApp feature will appear as a "Create with AI" option after updating to iOS version 25.19.75 by navigating to Settings > Chats > Default chat theme > Chat theme. It was first spotted by feature tracker WABetaInfo and is gradually rolling out to the stable update channel.

Once the feature is available, tapping on the "Create with AI" option will open a pop-up window with a text field. Here, users can enter a prompt based on their imagination. Within a few seconds, Meta AI will generate several wallpaper images based on that prompt, which users can view by swiping down.

Users can also regenerate the wallpaper according to their preferences by tapping on the Make Changes button. After selecting their preferred wallpaper, WhatsApp will give the option to adjust its position and control brightness in dark mode. The wallpaper can then be set by pressing the "Set" button. We tested this feature on Android beta version 2.25.207, where it worked well, as reported by the tracker. However, sometimes the AI overlooks user instructions regarding specific colors or elements.
