Tamil Nadu BJP vice-president KP Ramalingam was arrested on Sunday night. Ramalingam is accused of breaking the lock of the Bharat Mata memorial in the Dharmapuri district. Police said the BJP vice-president had reached Dharmapuri on August 11 along with his supporters to pay floral tributes at the memorial of Mother India but was stopped there due to some reason. After which his supporters started trying to get entry illegally.
To gain entry, the Bharat Mata memorial outside the gate was attacked and broken. A case has been registered against Ramalinga and his supporters in this case. State BJP chief Annamalai has reacted to the incident. He said that Ramalingam had sought permission from the authorities for this. It was only after getting permission that he reached to pay floral tribute to the statue of Mother India.
Annamalai tweeted that officials were not present at the spot. The gate was locked. After waiting for a long time, Ramalingam and his workers went to the memorial without damaging the gate. Condemning Ramalingam's arrest, Annamalai demanded that the police release him immediately without any conditions.
