Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman will reach New Delhi today on a three-day state visit to India. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, along with the Head of State of Oman, a high-level delegation of senior ministers and officials will also visit India.
This is the first state visit of the Sultan of Oman to India, which reflects a new dimension in the diplomatic relations between India and Oman. The Ministry of External Affairs said that the Sultan of Oman is coming to India at the invitation of President Draupadi Murmu. In this sequence, PM Modi and President Murmu will formally welcome him at Rashtrapati Bhavan on 16 December 2023.
He will also hold bilateral discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During this time, PM Modi will also organize lunch in his honor. The Ministry of External Affairs says that the visit of the Sultan of Oman to India will provide an opportunity to explore avenues of future cooperation between the two countries for regional stability, progress, and prosperity.
It is noteworthy that India has centuries-old relations with Oman. India and Oman have a long-standing friendship based on historical, cultural, and economic ties. In 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Oman added an important chapter to the bilateral relations between the two countries.
