Sisanda Magala included in CSK in place of injured Jameson: will play IPL for the first time, took 14 wickets in 12 matches in South Africa League
Chennai Super Kings have included South African fast bowler Sisanda Magala in place of injured Kiwi bowler Kyle Jameson. New Zealand pacer Jamieson signed for Rs 1 crore in the December mini-auction but suffered a lower back fracture shortly before the Test series against England last month. There is little hope of him playing even after the IPL.
Magala, 32, went unsold in the auction and had never played in the IPL before. Now he has joined Super Kings for his base price of Rs 50 lakhs.
Magala has not played any T20 for South Africa in 2021. He played the last T20 against Pakistan on 16 April 2021. But, he is playing T20 continuously. In the very first edition of the SA20 earlier this year, Magala played for the champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape and performed exceptionally well. He took 14 wickets with an economy of 8.68.
Magla is considered effective as a death bowler. Also, he specializes in taking wickets in powerplay. Also in batting, he has scored two half-centuries in his T20 career.
Chennai Super Kings will play against defending champions Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad in the first match of IPL 2023, however, Magala will be busy in the series against the Netherlands, due to which it is difficult for him to be available from the first match.
