Samsung has achieved record-breaking pre-orders in India for its new foldable smartphones - Galaxy Z Fold7 Flip7 and Flip7 FE. 2.1 lakh units were booked within 48 hours of launch. This achievement has come at a time when the global foldable market is facing a slowdown but their craze is increasing rapidly in India.

Samsung recently announced that its new foldable smartphones - Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE - received a record 210, 000 pre- orders within the first 48 hours of launch in India. This number is nearly equal to the 430, 000 pre- orders for the flagship Galaxy S 25 series earlier this year.

Samsung Southwest Asia President and CEO JB Park said, 'The record pre- orders for these foldable phones made in India show that young Indian users are rapidly adopting new technology. This success is a step toward our bigger goal - to mainstream foldable smartphones in India.'

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is the lightest and thinnest foldable ever, weighing only 215 grams and measuring just 8. 9 mm thick when folded. Additionally, the Fold 7 features a 200 MP camera in the Galaxy Z series for the first time, which was previously only available in the Galaxy S series.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 boasts Samsung' s largest FlexWindow yet - a 4. 1- inch Super AMOLED cover screen that stretches edge- to- edge. It also has a 6. 9- inch Dynamic AMOLED 2 X main display. The Flip 7 is the thinnest Flip model ever, at only 13. 7 mm thick when folded, and weighs 188 grams. It is equipped with a 4, 300 mAh battery.

Samsung' s success comes despite a slow- growing global foldable market. According to a report by Counterpoint Research, foldable shipments increased only 2. 2.9% year- over- year in 2024, with some brands experiencing double- and triple- digit growth.

The report states that the slow growth is due to a weak Q 4 for Samsung, geopolitical issues, and OPPO reducing production of budget foldables. Negative growth may occur in the global foldable segment for the first time in 2025, but the market is expected to rebound in 2026.

Counterpoint Research Director Calvin Lee said, 'At this time this market seems to be moving towards change, not stagnation.'

Samsung already holds a leading position in India' s foldable segment. For the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6, launched in July 2024, the company received 40% more pre- orders in the first 24 hours than last year, setting a record at that time.
