After the uproar in America after the Chinese chatbot AI DeepSeek, the US firms' tightness with China is not subsiding. New measures have been taken by OpenAI. A number of China-related accounts have been blocked by the company. In its report on threats, the company discovered the accounts were using social media monitoring.

According to the report, these accounts were generating descriptions for social media listening tools. It has been claimed that this tool was being used to prepare real-time reports of protests taking place in Western countries and send them to Chinese security agencies.

OpenAI said, "These operators used our models to check whether their insights reached Chinese embassies and intelligence agencies. This surveillance was happening in many countries including the US, Germany, and the UK."

The investigation also revealed that users were also using OpenAI's models in debugging the code for this tool. Although this tool was based on another AI model, its use was violating OpenAI's policy.

OpenAI said that the company's guidelines prohibit the use of AI for any kind of unauthorized surveillance, communication surveillance, or suppressing personal freedom.
