For the convenience of truck drivers, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has made it mandatory to install air conditioners (AC) in the cabins of trucks manufactured from October 2025. According to the notification issued by the ministry, AC will have to be installed in the cabins of N-2 and N-3 category vehicles manufactured on or after October 1, 2025.

In July this year itself, Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari had informed about the approval of the proposal to make it mandatory for truck drivers to install AC in the cabin. The Union Minister had recently said that truck drivers play a very important role in freight transportation. In such a situation, it is important to pay attention to keep their working conditions and mood good. He had talked about making it mandatory to provide AC in the cabin of trucks soon. The Union Minister had said that some people were opposing the installation of AC in the cabins of trucks citing an increase in cost.

Earlier in his statement in July, Nitin Gadkari had said that the draft notification has been approved to make the installation of an air conditioning system mandatory in the cabin of trucks belonging to the N2 and N3 categories. Truck drivers play an important role in ensuring road safety. Gadkari had said that this decision would prove to be an important milestone in providing comfortable working conditions to truck drivers, thereby improving their efficiency and solving the problem of driver fatigue.
