Jaipur SMS Hospital Fire: Blaze in Neuro ICU Kills Seven Patients, Probe Ordered

There was a serious accident late on Sunday night at Sawai Mansingh (SMS) Hospital's trauma center in Jaipur. There was an instantaneous fire at the neuro ICU ward, and seven patients lost their lives. Three of the victims were women.

According to reports, the fire broke out at around 11:20 pm in the trauma center's ICU storeroom, where medical papers, blood sample tubes, and other ICU-related items were stored. A short circuit is believed to be the cause of the fire, although official confirmation will only be made after an investigation.

The nodal officer and senior doctor at the trauma center stated that a total of 11 patients were admitted to the ICU at the time of the accident, while 13 more patients were in the adjacent ICU. As soon as the fire broke out, the staff immediately raised the alarm and attempted to shift the patients, but seven patients died due to smoke and fire.

The accident created havoc on the hospital campus. Relatives were heard crying and wailing, and the condition of some patients is said to be critical. Some fire trucks went to the spot, and after a struggle for nearly an hour, the fire was suppressed.

An inquiry has been initiated, and technical units have been sent to verify a short circuit. There has not been a detailed official notification from the government or the hospital administration yet.
