The 2026 edition of Chennai Super Kings came to an end on Thursday as they lost to Gujarat Titans in Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. The result left Gujarat Titans victorious by 89 runs, marking the biggest ever loss for CSK in the history of IPL.

Post-match, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) levied penalties on all the 11 players selected for the match, along with the Impact Player. Gujarat Titans won the toss and managed to post 229-3 in just 20 overs. In reply, CSK were bowled out for 140 in their chase of 230.shivam Dube was the highest run-getter for CSK, contributing 47 runs in 17 deliveries with 4 fours and 4 sixes. However, none of the other batsmen could last long. Urvil Patel and Sanju Samson failed to even open their accounts, leading to the team's biggest defeat in IPL history.

Following the defeat, the BCCI fined Ruturaj Gaikwad ₹2.4 million (2.4 million rupees), while the remaining members of the playing XI, including impact players, were fined 25 percent of their match fees or ₹6 million (600,000 rupees), whichever was less.

Chennai Super Kings were bowling when they did not complete their 20 overs within the stipulated time. This was their second mistake this season. This is why captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and all the players in the playing eleven were punished.
