Government Issues High-Risk Alert for Google Chrome Users on Windows, Mac, and Linux

The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team, CERT-In, has issued a new security advisory. The warning of this government agency is for those using Google Chrome on their computers. On October 30, CERT-In announced that the privacy of users using the Google Chrome browser on Windows, macOS, and Linux is vulnerable. Hackers can remotely access the device and steal data. The cybersecurity agency has asked all users to update their Chrome browser as soon as possible.

According to a report by the government cybersecurity agency CERT-In, there are several flaws in the web browser Chrome from Google. These flaws allow hackers to easily compromise any device and steal the data of the device. CERT-In has classified it as a high-risk vulnerability.

This vulnerability exists in Linux versions 142.0.7444.59 or older. On Windows and Mac, the vulnerability exists in Chrome versions 142.0.7444.59 or older. This vulnerability in Google Chrome occurs in components such as the V8 JavaScript engine, extensions, autofill, media, and Omnibox. Issues such as type confusion, use-after-free errors, and policy bypasses have also been identified. These flaws allow hackers to gain control of the system through arbitrary code and bypass security protections.

To avoid this risk, CERT-In recommends updating Google Chrome to the latest version, 142.0.7444.60 or later. To update Google Chrome, users need to go to the browser's menu. Then, go to Help and click on About Google Chrome. A new page will open, where the latest update for Google Chrome will automatically install. After the update is complete, you'll need to restart the Chrome browser.
