'Because of Congress, Bangladeshi tag was placed on our forehead' AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal lashed out over NRC

All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) president Badruddin Ajmal has held Congress responsible for the problems faced by the public due to the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the state.

Badruddin Ajmal, Lok Sabha MP from Assam's Dhubri constituency, said it is because of the Congress that many people in the state are being labelled as 'Bangladeshis'.

"We are not Bangladeshis, who built the detention camp here, it was Congress, it was Congress who created the NRC problem," Badruddin Ajmal said at a party meeting held in Assam's Dhubri district on Saturday. It is Congress that has put a Bangladeshi tag on our forehead.

Ajmal further said 'If Congress does not form an alliance with AIUDF then Congress will be destroyed in Assam. They will keep facing defeat after defeat and they will end up here.

On next year's Lok Sabha elections, Badruddin Ajmal said that AIUDF will perform well in the elections. He said, 'AIUDF will perform well in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Nagaon, Karimganj and Dhubri Lok Sabha constituencies have become favourable for us, we will contest these seats and win. As per the Assam Accord of August 15, 1985, the exercise of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) has been started in the state.
