Alex Carey’s Twin Acts, Travis Head’s 170 Power Australia to Ashes Glory
Australia vs England, 3rd Test: Australia defeated England by 82 runs in the third Test to win the Ashes series. The hosts now lead the five-match series 3-0.
The third Test match of the Ashes Series between Australia and England was hosted at Adelaide Oval in Australia. Australia won this Test by 82 runs due to the outstanding performances of Alex Carey and Travis Head, who scored centuries in the match. Australia won the five-match Test series by achieving a 3-0 lead over England.
Australia managed to score 371 runs in the first innings of the third Test, thanks to Alex Carey’s century and Usman Khawaja’s fifty. For the opposing team, England was bundled out for 286 runs, giving Australia an 85-run lead. Australia managed to score 349 runs in the second innings, thanks to Travis Head’s sensational 170. This left the target of 435 runs for England to win. On the fifth day, England were all out for 352 in their second innings, thus winning the match by 82 runs.
Alex Carey scored 106 runs off 143 balls in the first innings. In the second innings, he scored 72 runs off 128 balls. Additionally, while wicketkeeping, Carey took five catches in the first innings and two dismissals in the second, including a brilliant stumping of Jake Crowley. For this outstanding performance, Carey was named Player of the Match.
Coming to bat on the fourth day at 207 for 6, England got off to a good start. However, they suffered their seventh setback at 285. Jamie Smith returned to the pavilion after scoring 60 runs. He was caught by Cummins off Starc. Will Jacks then departed for 47 at 337. Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue were dismissed cheaply. Brendon Carse remained unbeaten on 39. For Australia, captain Pat Cummins, fast bowler Mitchell Starc, and off-spinner Nathan Lyon took three wickets each, while Scott Boland took one.

Earlier on the fourth day, England's innings, which had been struggling with its disappointing batting performance throughout the series, faltered again. Except for opener Jack Crawley (85), no other batsman could stay at the crease. Joe Root (39) and Harry Brook (30) got starts but failed to convert them into big scores. At the end of the day's play, England were 207 for six, needing 228 runs to win with just four wickets remaining. Wicketkeeper-batsman Jamie Smith was unbeaten on two and Will Jacks on 11.
Earlier, Australia began the fourth day's play at 271 for 4. Head made 142 and Carey 52. Head was dismissed after scoring 170 runs off 219 balls, including two sixes and 16 fours. Head and Carey shared a crucial 162-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Following Head's dismissal, Alex Carey was dismissed for 72. Following Carey's dismissal, the Australian innings was quickly reduced to 349.
Australia had an 85-run lead in the first innings, setting England a target of 435 runs to win. Australia won the toss and elected to bat first, scoring 371 runs. England's first innings ended at 271.
