Yuvraj Singh Claims – This Young Player Will Open In ODI World Cup 2023

Yuvraj Singh, who played a key role in making India the world champion in 2011, believes Shubman Gill is a strong contender to open the innings in the 2023 ODI World Cup to be held in India. Gill is not a part of the Indian team in the ongoing ODI series in Bangladesh but was in the squad that toured New Zealand. Yuvraj told PTI on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the Blind T20 World Cup, “I think Shubman is doing very well and there is consistency in his performance. I think he is a strong contender to open the innings for India in the 2023 World Cup.

Yuvraj, who retired from all forms of cricket in the year 2019, continued to play the role of a mentor for young cricketers from his state Punjab and Gill is also included. During the lockdown in 2020 due to COVID-19, Shubman spent time with Yuvraj and learned cricket from the former Indian team all-rounder along with current Punjab captain and Sunrisers Hyderabad all-rounder Abhishek Sharma.

Yuvraj said, “Shubman is a very hard-working player and focuses on all the good things. I believe he will become a legend in the next 10 years. Yuvraj refused to comment on the Indian team's performance in the T20 World Cup and the sacking of the national selectors. Responding to a question, he said that he is ready to become a sports or cricketer administrator. Yuvraj said, “I do not know what the future holds but if I can contribute to the development of the game in the country, then I am not averse to it. It is not just cricket but I would love to contribute to the development of sports in the country.
