Yevgeny Prigozhin's plane may have been deliberately shot down, Kremlin expressed doubt

The Kremlin said Wednesday that investigators were considering the possibility that the plane carrying Yevgeny Prigozhin was deliberately shot down. During a press conference in the Kremlin, spokesperson Dmitry Peskov was asked whether there was any international angle in the investigation.

On this, Russian President's spokesperson Peskov said that this is a different matter. The investigators have not yet reached any conclusion. The investigation is being done from different angles. That's why I can't tell anything clearly right now.

Prigozhin was flying from Moscow to St. Petersburg on a private Embraer jet on August 23. The jet crashed north of Moscow, killing all 10 people on board, including two other top Wagner officials, four of Prigozhin's bodyguards, and three crew members. The cause is still unclear, but villagers near the site reported that they heard a bang and then saw the jet fall to the ground.

The plane crashed just two months after Prigozhin captured the southern city of Rostov in late June, sparking an uprising that has shaken the foundation of President Vladimir Putin's Russia.
