Donald Trump Threatens Strait of Hormuz Blockade to Counter Iran’s ‘Toll Tax’ Move
Following the suspension of Iran-US talks in Pakistan, Trump threatened a complete blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Now, the US is going to impose a blockade on the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran already controls.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian spoke with French President Emmanuel Macron over the phone and called on Europe to play a constructive and positive role in ending the conflict with the United States and advancing talks.
Pezeshkian stressed that negotiations should take place strictly within the framework of international law to reach a lasting and stable agreement.
He made it clear that threats, pressure, and military action cannot solve any problem — instead, they only make the situation more complicated. The Iranian President urged Europe to encourage the United States to respect and follow international rules.
The United States has begun a naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, a move ordered by President Donald Trump that came into effect on Tuesday evening.
Trump issued a strong warning, stating that any Iranian ship approaching the blockade area will be immediately destroyed using aggressive tactics similar to those used against drug smugglers at sea. All vessels attempting to pass through the strait will now be stopped and inspected, especially those suspected of paying tolls to Iran.
Trump has since threatened a total blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which is under Iranian control. The question is: Why is the United States blocking the Strait of Hormuz, which is under Iranian control?
After Iran closed the Strait, Iran declared that the Strait must be opened without any conditions. However, Iran is not relenting; rather, it is seeking unlawful tolls on ships traveling through the Strait. As a result of such actions taken by Iran, Trump declared a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump declared that the US Navy will block all ships moving into or out of the Strait of Hormuz immediately.
