TRAI suggested a Digital Connectivity Rating (DCRA) system where the building will receive a rating from 1 to 5 stars. The rating will be assigned on the basis of parameters like fiber readiness, mobile connectivity, Wi-Fi infrastructure, as well as in-building solutions.

According to TRAI chief Anil Kumar Lahoti, so far, 5 agencies have applied for registration as DCRA. They can be evaluated this month. A draft manual has also been issued to make the rating process transparent and uniform.

This rating system will apply to both new and old buildings. TRAI believes that this will motivate developers to provide better digital infrastructure.

Lahoti said that 80% of data consumption happens inside buildings, so strong connectivity is necessary. Especially for 5G and future 6G networks, in-building solutions have become mandatory.
