Team India is almost out of the race to reach the final of the Asia Cup. Sri Lanka defeated India by 6 wickets in the Super-4 match played on Tuesday. Sri Lanka needed 7 runs in the last over to win. Arshdeep gave only 5 runs in the first four balls. The batsman could not play a shot on the fifth ball. Wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant had a run-out chance but his throw did not hit the wicket. After this, there was no throw at the non-striker's end either. In this Sri Lankan batsmen took two runs and won the match.
The Indian team is still in the race for the final on paper. But, for this many miracles have to happen at the same time.
If these conditions are fulfilled then India can reach the final.
India defeated Afghanistan in their last Super-4 match.
- Sri Lankan team beat Pakistan
- Afghanistan team also defeated Pakistan
After all this, Sri Lanka will remain at number 1 with 6 points. India, Pakistan and Afghanistan will have two points each. India must have the best net run rate among these three teams.
Team India captain Rohit Sharma's bat spoke fiercely in today's match. He played a blistering inning of 72 runs off 41 balls. India had got 2 setbacks early, Virat and KL Rahul could not do anything special. After this Rohit played an innings of 72 runs with the help of 5 fours and 4 sixes, his strike rate was 175.60.
After Rohit, Suryakumar Yadav was also dismissed early. 34 runs came off his bat in 29 balls. There was a partnership of 97 runs in 58 balls between Rohit and Surya. Hardik Pandya and Deepak Hooda also flopped in today's match. Hardik 13 and Hooda could only make 3 runs.
Rishabh Pant, who was dismissed after playing a bad shot in the last match, could not do much against Sri Lanka and was dismissed for 17 runs in 13 balls.
KL Rahul flopped once again against Sri Lanka. He faced 7 balls and scored only 6 runs. His wicket was taken by Mahesh Teekshna. On the fourth ball of the second over, Rahul wanted to go ahead and play, but the ball went and hit his leg. The Sri Lankan players made a strong appeal and the umpire gave him out LBW. Rahul has not scored a single half-century in the 4 matches of the Asia Cup.
At the same time, Virat Kohli, who scored a half-century against Pakistan, could not even open his account. Young fast bowler Dilshan got clean bowled on the coming ball of Madushanka. The fourth ball of the third over proved to be dangerous for Virat. Rohit was also disappointed as soon as Virat got out.
