Sunita Williams, Indian-origin NASA astronaut is all set to celebrate Thanksgiving with 'smoked turkey, mashed potatoes' in space. For your information, Thanksgiving is celebrated every year in the US on the fourth Thursday of November to honor the blessings and harvest of the year.

Williams said in a video message shared by NASA on Wednesday, "Our team wants to say Happy Thanksgiving to all our friends and family on Earth and all those who support us."

The astronauts said that NASA had provided them with food items like butternut squash, apples, sardines, and smoked turkey for the occasion.

In a recent interview with NBC News, Williams shared his plans to celebrate the day with the other astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS) - Butch Wilmore, Nick Hague and Alexander Gorbunov.

The plans include watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and having a sumptuous feast with "some smoked turkey, some cranberries, apple cobbler, green beans and mushrooms and mashed potatoes." In June, Williams and Butch Wilmore became the first people to ride the much-delayed Starliner developed by Boeing.

What was to be an eight-day stay in space for Williams and Wilmore has now turned into eight months as NASA declared the faulty Starliner unsuitable for human travel.

While the Starliner has successfully returned to Earth, Williams is supposed to return to Earth in February 2025 aboard a SpaceX Dragon. With the growing concern about their extended time in space, NASA recently reassured them that both Williams and Wilmore were safe on the station. Williams added that she feels good, exercises, and eats right.

The Indian-origin astronaut also celebrated Diwali "on the ISS, 260 miles above Earth". According to NASA, Sunita has spent a total of 322 days in space, and is the second-most spacewalking female astronaut.
