At the World Boxing Cup 2 held in China on Sunday, Indian boxers put up a great fight and secured their only gold medal at the event. Jyoti beat Farzona Fozilova, representing Uzbekistan in the finals for the 48 kg category and claimed a gold medal. Apart from Jyoti, three other Indian boxers received silver medals at the tournament.

Jyoti had a clear edge over her opponent Fozilova who is the former World Boxing Cup champion hailing from Brazil. Jyoti beat her in the finals with a score of 5-0.

Three more silver medals were added to India's tally following impressive final bouts:

  • Meenakshi (51kg): Meenakshi, the world number 1 boxer in the 48kg category, competed in a higher weight class (51kg) this time. She suffered a 0-5 defeat against China's Wu Yu in the final and had to settle for the silver medal.
  • Prachi (57kg): Prachi, who had enjoyed an excellent run in the tournament so far, also faced defeat in her title bout. She was beaten 0-5 by Uzbekistan's Nigina Uktamova, resulting in a silver medal finish for Prachi.
  • Deepak (70kg): In the men's final, India's Deepak also had to settle for a silver medal. He suffered a 0-5 loss against Kazakhstan's Ablaikhan Zhussupov in the title clash.
