Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to the Pachpadra refinery in Balotra has been postponed following a fire incident at the site. Employees were evacuated from the CDU unit as a precaution, while the Prime Minister was expected to inaugurate the project tomorrow.

Balotra (Rajasthan): A major fire erupted in the Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) of India’s first Greenfield Integrated Refinery-cum-Petrochemical Complex at Pachpadra on Monday afternoon, prompting authorities to postpone Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled inauguration visit the following day.

The blaze broke out around 2 PM in the CDU of the HPCL Rajasthan Refinery Limited facility, a joint venture between Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and the Rajasthan government. Thick plumes of smoke were visible from a distance as the fire quickly intensified. refinery staff immediately activated the fire safety systems and raised the alarm.

Fire tenders from Balotra and surrounding areas rushed to the spot within minutes. As many as 10 to 16 fire brigade vehicles operated simultaneously, battling the flames for nearly two hours before gaining substantial control over the fire. Officials confirmed that the blaze has now been largely contained.
