Prime Minister Narendra Modi replied to the congratulatory message of his Canadian counterpart Justin Trudeau on Monday. He said that New Delhi is eager to work with Canada on the basis of mutual understanding and respect for each other's concerns. In September last year, relations between India and Canada came under serious strain after Trudeau's allegations of possible involvement of Indian agents in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia.
