The officer said that the police are making every possible effort to deal with such incidents. "In a similar operation, five people were arrested on Saturday. They were produced before a judicial magistrate and remanded to further police custody," the official further said in the statement.
The Manipur Police statement said that a large number of people came to protest against the arrest of the accused and tried to attack "Porompat police station (in Imphal East district)". Seeing the crowd of people, the security forces fired tear gas shells, due to which the crowd dispersed.
