Maharashtra CM-ministers will come under Lokayukta: Shinde government approves Anna Hazare's demand

The Maharashtra government will implement the Lokpal Act in the state, which will put the chief minister of the state under the jurisdiction of the Lokayukta. The Shinde government has fully accepted the recommendations of a panel headed by social activist Anna Hazare.
The Anna Hazare committee's recommendation to set up a Lokayukta, similar to the Lokpal in Maharashtra, was approved during a cabinet meeting held in Nagpur before the assembly session. Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde told the media – We will run the government with complete transparency. We will make Maharashtra corruption free, so we have decided to bring Lokayukta law into the state.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said – the Lokayukta bill will be brought in this session. Anna Hazare was demanding Lokpal Act in Maharashtra. During our tenure, we constituted a committee under the leadership of Anna Hazare for recommendations, accepted the recommendations given and prepared this law. However, no action was taken on it during the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government. When we returned to power, we accelerated this process.
Deputy CM said- Lokayukta will be a 5-member team, in which the Chief Justice of the High Court and Supreme Court will also be included. He said- We are enacting a new Lokpal Act to fight corruption, and this is the biggest step taken by our government in the last five months.
Speaking on the border dispute, Fadnavis said that the Maharashtra-Karnataka border issue has not cropped up recently. Jat villagers in Sangli district passed a resolution to join Karnataka in 2013. Besides this, several border districts which are seeking to be included in other border states like Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh are being instigated by some political parties. We have gathered all the information about it and will announce it soon.
Lokayukta is an apex legal functionary whose purpose is to look into the grievances of the people against the state government and its administration. Once the Bill is passed, the Governor will appoint the Lokayukta after due consultation with the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court and the Leader of the Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. Maharashtra was the first state in the country to establish a Lokayukta through the Maharashtra Lokayukta and Up-Lokayukta Act, of 1971.
