India successfully tests portable anti-tank guided missile system, Defense Minister praises DRDO and Indian Army

The Army successfully field tested the indigenously developed Man-Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile (MPATGM) weapon system. This has paved the way for its inclusion in the army's arsenal. This weapon system has been designed and developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO).

Officials said on Sunday that the overall system includes MPATGM, launcher, target acquisition equipment and a fire control unit. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has praised DRDO and the Indian Army for these successful tests and described it as an important step towards achieving self-reliance in advanced technology-based defence system development.

The Defense Ministry said that the MPATG weapon system has been evaluated several times in various flight configurations to prove the technology with high superiority. The ministry said that the warhead flight test was successfully conducted at the Pokhran Field Firing Range on April 13. Missile performance and warhead performance were found to be remarkable.

It said a substantial number of missile firing tests have been conducted successfully. Penetration testing of the MPATGM Tandem Warhead System has been completed. It has been found capable of defeating modern armor-protected main battle tanks. The weapon system is well-equipped for operations both day and night.

Tank warfare requires dual-mode functionality. This completes the technology development and successful demonstration process. In preparation for its induction into the Indian Army, the system is now prepared for end-user evaluation trials. Sameer V. Kamat, Chairman of the DRDO, congratulated the test teams.
