What the research says is - Too much salt (sodium chloride) has a very high chance of increasing blood pressure. Eating too much salt increases the risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) and stroke. Researchers investigated the link between eating salt and heart failure.
How the research was done - This Finland-based study selected a total of 4630 men and women and asked them some questions about their health behavior, their weight, their height, and their blood pressure. His blood and urine samples were also taken for the test. The participants were observed for 12 years and the risk of cardiac attack due to salt consumption was also studied.
Research results- The results revealed that participants whose daily salt intake was more than 13.7 grams were twice as likely to have heart failure, compared to those whose daily salt intake was less than 6.8 grams. The risk of heart failure due to salt is dependent on the blood pressure of the people. The researchers concluded that it is unhealthy for the heart to consume excessive salt.
