German Defense Minister's visit to India: Will meet Rajnath Singh, the submarine deal likely to be worth 43 thousand crores

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius is coming to India today on a 4-day visit. He will meet Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. During this, there can be a deal between the two countries for 6 advanced diesel-electric submarines costing Rs 43,000 crore under Project 75I. Along with this, cooperation in the technology of air defense systems and drones will also be discussed between the two leaders.
Earlier, after the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, he said – India's dependence on Russian weapons is not in favor of Germany. Talking to DW News, Pistorius said – India has been dependent on Russia for defense-related needs for a long time. At the same time, after the start of the Ukraine war in early 2022, India has become a major contender for Russian crude oil at low prices.
Pistorius said- India is dependent on Russia to a great extent for weapons and defense technologies. In such a situation, Germany will not be able to see common interests with India in the future. We cannot change it. This is an issue that we have to address together with other partners. But I would like to say that we are ready to cooperate with our partners like Indonesia and India.
Pistorius said – India is a strong partner. Next year, when the German Navy is again deployed in the Indo-Pacific region, we plan to conduct exercises with the Indian Navy.
He said- The strategic partnership between India and Germany is continuing for the last 23 years. The port visit by the German Navy in Mumbai in 2022 was successful. Now we are planning to split 2 German ships at the port of Goa next year. During this, we will also do joint exercises with the Indian Navy.
This is the first visit of Boris Pistorius to India after becoming the Defense Minister of Germany. He was appointed the Defense Minister on 17 January. During the visit to India, Pistorius will also meet companies starting start-ups in the defense sector in New Delhi. After this, he can also visit the Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited, which manufactures warships and submarines for the Indian Navy, including the headquarters of the Western Naval Command in Mumbai.
