Gates of Bisalpur Dam may open today due to the dam's near overflow with water level exceeding 315.17 meters
Tonk News: Bisalpur dam, called the lifeline of Rajasthan, is close to overflowing. The water level of the dam has crossed 315 meters late on Sunday night. Continuous inflow continues in the dam. Hooters may sound to open the gates at any time.
After heavy rains in Rajasthan, Bisalpur dam, known as the lifeline of many districts including Jaipur, is nearing overflow. The dam supplies water to about one crore people in Jaipur, Tonk, and surrounding areas, fulfilling both household and agricultural needs.
The water level was measured on Monday morning, crossing 315.17 meters—33 cm below its full capacity of 315.50 meters RL. So far, 597 mm of rain has fallen in the dam area. Continuous inflow is coming from the Triveni River, which is flowing at a height of 3.30 meters. There is a possibility that the dam gates may be opened by late evening today. The dam first overflowed in 2004 after its construction, and since then, gates have been opened seven times—in 2006, 2014, 2016, 2019, 2022, and 2024.
Additionally, heavy rains caused the embankment of Islampura dam in Chhan Bas Surya Panchayat of Barwas sub-tehsil area in Tonk to break on Sunday. This increased water pressure on the pond in Naya village, located downstream, raising the risk of further failure.
