She became the first female pilot to lead a flypast in a Mi-17 V5 helicopter during the Republic Day parade on January 26, 2021.
Squadron Leader Swati Rathore hails from a small village called Prempura in the Nagaur district. Today, she is a proud inspiration for the entire nation. Her background is humble, yet she achieved the proud title of Squadron Leader in the Indian Air Force. Swati Rathore made a mark in the history books of the Air Force by becoming the first woman pilot to command a flypast with a Mi-17 V5 helicopter on the occasion of the Republic Day parade on January 26, 2021.
Swati Rathore’s love for the nation and service dates back to her childhood. Swati Rathore revealed her ambition of becoming a pilot by creating a painting depicting the national flag of the Indian National Army during a school painting competition held in Ajmer. Swati Rathore joined the Air Force in 2014 after her first attempt. After induction in 2016, she displayed bravery in rescue missions during the 2018 Kerala floods.
In 2022, Swati Rathore joined India's first female Chinook helicopter pilots (along with Squadron Leader Parul Bhardwaj), deployed in the northeastern sector near the LAC. Her husband is a Major in the Indian Army, while her brother is in the Merchant Navy, reflecting the family's spirit of service.
