Tesla CEO and entrepreneur Elon Musk is now expanding into robotics beyond electric vehicles. He has stated that his firm will manufacture 1 million "Optimus" robots over the next few years. The robots will be as smart as humans and potentially revolutionize the way work is performed worldwide.

During the company's quarterly results, Musk stated that the Optimus project could become the largest and most important project in Tesla's history. He stated that these robots will be able to perform tasks five times more efficiently than humans. Musk has also demanded complete autonomy from the company's board on this project to expedite the development process.

Tesla's human-like humanoid robot is being designed to perform repetitive or tedious tasks such as manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, and household chores. Musk says this robot could lay the foundation for a future where poverty will be eradicated and medical care will be accessible to everyone. It could even act as a robot surgeon.

Musk first introduced this robot during an event in 2023. Since then, Optimus has been in the news. Recently, a video surfaced showing the robot training in Kung Fu.

After 2023, Tesla has accelerated work on this project. According to Musk, this robot is completely based on artificial intelligence (AI) and does not require human operation. This means it is capable of thinking and reacting on its own.

Tesla says it will have a production prototype ready by early 2026, and mass production could begin by the end of the year. If all goes according to plan, this "robot army" will become Musk's biggest vision in the coming decade.
