"Don’t Smash Them So Much," Brian Lara Tells Yashasvi Jaiswal After Dominant Knock

West Indies great Brian Lara has urged Indian cricket team's star batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal to refrain from striking the bowlers so fiercely after his incredible innings in the second Test against India. It should be mentioned that Jaiswal fell just short of a double century, getting out for 175 on account of an error by Shubman Gill. Jaiswal had tallied 175 runs, including 22 fours, by the close of the first day's play and left the West Indies team on the back foot in this game.

The BCCI posted a video on its Twitter account, in which Brian Lara is seen praising Jaiswal's innings in Delhi. After a brief conversation, Lara urges Jaiswal not to thrash the West Indies bowlers so badly. Jaiswal laughs and replies that he's trying. It's worth noting that Lara and the legendary Sir Vivian Richards were among the spectators who witnessed the West Indies bowlers' thrashing at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Jaiswal has reached the triple-digit mark at home after 604 days. The last time he reached the triple-digit mark at home was in 2024, during a series against England, when he scored 209 and 214*. Since then, he has crossed the 50-run mark on five occasions, but failed to convert them into centuries.

Yashasvi Jaiswal now has seven Test centuries to his name, and at just 23, he trails only Tendulkar on the list of Indian batsmen with the most centuries. Australian legend Don Bradman tops the list with 12 centuries.
