The US has filed a new accusation regarding China's AI model, DeepSeek. In a statement, Howard Lutnick, nominee for Commerce Secretary under Trump, alleged that China stole technology produced in America in an attempt to develop its AI model, DeepSeek. Besides, bypassed US controls for exporting chips designed by Nvidia.

During a Senate hearing, Lutnick testified that DeepSeek could have developed its AI model at a lesser cost by purchasing bulk NVideo chips and leveraging information in Meta's free platform

He said that I have a negative view of China. China only thinks about itself and wants to harm us. So we need to protect ourselves. We need to work to advance our innovation. We must stop helping China. DeepSeek relies on Meta's platform. Nvidia's chips power China's DeepSeek model. This must end.

Earlier, Lutnick had called for improved enforcement of Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) export controls and tariffs to prevent China from taking advantage of US technology to compete with the US.

Taiwan's Ministry of Digital Affairs banned government employees from using DeepSeek on Friday. Due to Taiwan's fears that it may leak data. This ban will apply to employees of central, and local government agencies, public schools, state government businesses, and other related institutions.

DeepSeek, founded by hedge fund manager Liang Wenfeng in 2023, has rapidly emerged as a serious competitor in the AI race. Its latest model, the DeepSeek-R1, released last week, has drawn attention for its advanced capabilities in tasks such as mathematics, coding and logic. DeepSeek has given OpenAI, Google and many Silicon Valley companies sleepless nights. The launch of DeepSeek has not only intensified the competition in the generative AI space but has also affected the stock market.
